The Albanian world champion, Ymer Pampuri dies at the age of 73
Albanian sport will be missing another great sport figure. Ymer Pampuri has passed away following a heart attack at the age of 73. He remains one of the most successful sportsmen in Albania, after winning the only Olympic medal. Ymer Pampuri is the only Albanian sportsman that has won a world champion title.

In the Munich Olympic Games of 1972, after defeating his Russian and Japanese opponents in the 60 kg category, Ymer Pampuri managed to rank first winning a golden medal. Such result had never been achieved by another sportsman in Albania.

Ymer Pampuri started his career in a circus, but his talent in weightlifting was obvious by specialists of this sport. For 10 years in a row, from 1964 until 1974, he was a champion in the country, while in 1971 he was declared runner-up in the European championship.

For his achievements in weightlifting, he has received the title “Great Sport Master”. /balkaneu.com/
