In the current complex, changing and unpredictable social, political and economic conditions, Culture can really express the distresses of the society and a big range of human feelings. Culture can give birth to innovative ideas and unite people, cities or even an entire nation that will draw strength, hope and optimism from a creative thought in order to move forward. At the same time, Art and Culture remain for our municipal authority significant means of essential contact between citizens of different culture, color or religion discouraging phenomena of social exclusion and racism.

With these beliefs, the Municipality of Neapolis – Sykies of Thessaloniki is planning for 14th year the long- standing and established events of the “Balkan Square”. A Culture Week, a Cultural Festival that supports the peaceful coexistence, the stability and the collaboration in the sensitive field of the Balkan region.

A feast where Balkan cities participate with various artistic forms, traditional and modern music, visual arts, exhibitions, folk dances, theatre, book presentations, reviving in a friendly atmosphere the sense of unity, diversity and variety of the Balkan field.

The events are open for all the citizens, the Balkan friends and economic immigrants who will have the opportunity to enjoy for nine days with their families and their friends, proud for the artists of their homeland, ready to applaud their neighbors. All these years, a great number of artists from various countries have already participated to the events. Among others, we mention:  Synthesis, Anastasia, Ardit Gjebrea, Bodan Arsovski, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Whirling Mevlevi Dervishes, Slavi Trifonof, Goran Bregović, The mystery of Bulgarian Voices, Irma και Eranda Libohova, Zülfü Livaneli, Tamara Obrovac, Manjola Nallbani, Balkan Horses Band
