The Minister of Defence, Mr Christoforos Fokaides, departed today, 23 October 2016, for Austria where he will pay an official visit at the invitation of his Austrian counterpart, Mr Hans Peter Doskozil.
Minister Fokaides’ meetings will focus on the expansion of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Austrian and on the joint initiatives they have developed within the framework of the European Security and Defence College. It is noted that the Austrian Military Academy will sign next month a memorandum of cooperation with the Cyprus Open University and the University of Nicosia.
Moreover, the agenda of Mr Fokaides’ meeting with his Austrian counterpart is expected to cover the EU Global Strategy as well as European matters of common interest, such as the migration crisis and terrorism. The Cyprus Defence Minister will also brief his interlocutor on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue.
During his visit in Vienna, Minister Fokaides will also have a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Mr Lamberto Zannier.
He will return to Cyprus on Tuesday, 25 October 2016./IBNA
