The European Commission presented today the progress report for the EU associate member countries for 2016. Albania is given a conditional recommendation for the launch of EU accession talks.
The EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn declared that Albania has made sustainable progress in delivering the five key priorities for launch of talks, following the approval of the reform in justice.
The commission has praised the work done in the investigation and fight against corruption and organized crime, production and trafficking of drugs, underlining that this work should continue. According to the report, reform in the public administration has continued to be applied in a consistent way.
“The Commission issues a conditional recommendation to Albania as far as the opening of negotiations is concerned. The conditioning relates to a tangible application of the reform in justice and of the Vetting law, especially in terms of the verification of judges and prosecutors. We must see results of the application on the ground”, Hahn said.
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama issued a prompt reaction to this: “Much anticipated news arrives from the European Commission: Positive recommendation for the launch of talks. This is the best reward for the three years of battles and reforms”. /balkaneu.com/
