The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris met, today, at the House of Representatives, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Mrs Maja Gojković.
After the meeting Mr Syllouris and Mrs Gojković made statements to the press.
In particular, Mr Syllouris said: “It is with great pleasure I received today the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, of a friendly country for many years, since the Yugoslavia era, that the two historic leaders established a very good cooperation, which exists until today that Serbia is trying to join the EU and Cyprus supports its course.
I thanked Serbia for its longstanding support towards Cyprus on issues of principle and on the basis of principles, and, in recent years, for the contingent in UNFICYP, in which Serbia participates.
We have agreed that we will reach an agreement on specific issues, which will be drafted by technocrats of the two Houses of Representatives and we aim to sign that agreement at the beginning of next year, in order to work together on the improvement of our relations”.
Mrs Gojković said that Servia has excellent relations with Cyprus and she hopes that her visit will strengthen the cooperation between the two Houses of Representatives and the peoples of the two countries. She added that Servia is grateful to Cyprus Government for its support to its European course but also for its support to the territorial integrity and independence of Serbia.
She added that she discussed with Mr Syllouris ways for the development of the two countries’ cooperation and they agreed to sign an agreement on several issues.
Mrs Gojković concluded by saying that she hopes that Mr Syllouris will reciprocate her visit at the beginning of next year and that, on this occasion, they will sign the abovementioned agreements./IBNA
