The President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received today the new Swedish Ambassador to Cyprus, Mrs Anna Olsson Vrang.
Welcoming the new Ambassador, the House President provided information regarding the structure and operation of the Cyprus Parliament, noting that one of the objectives of the newly-elected body, after this year’s parliamentary elections, is to restore the troubled trust of citizens toward the institutions, an issue that has salience not just in Cyprus but in the EU as a whole.
Moreover, Mr Syllouris exchanged views with Ambassador Olsson Vrang on the latest developments in the talks to resolve the Cyprus problem. They also discussed current issues of mutual interest, including the refugee and migration crisis, both expressing the view that in order to address the crisis all EU member states must show solidarity and take coordinated action.
Mr Syllouris and the Swedish Ambassador also exchanged views on the developments in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean and their impact on both the stability of the region and the relations between the affected countries and the EU.
