A regular poll by Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute (NSI) found a more negative view of the Bulgarian business climate in October 2016, down by 1.3 percentage points compared with September, mainly because of more negative perceptions in industry and the retail trade.
While a more unfavourable business climate was registered in industry and the retail trade, the view in the construction sector was about the same as in September, though in the service sector, views were more optimistic, the NSI poll found.
The indicator of the business climate in industry was down 4.4 percentage points in comparision with September 2016, because of the more reserved industrial entrepreneurs’ assessments and expectations about the business situation in their sector.
The poll in the industry sector also found more unfavourable forecasts about exports and production activity over the next three months.
In industry, close to half of those polled said that the main problem was the uncertain economic environment, while managers saw selling prices as remaining unchanged over the next three months.
In the retail trade, the indicator was down 2.1 percentage points compared with September, as a result of the shifting of the retailers’ assessments and expectations about the business situation of enterprises from ‘better’ towards preserving ‘the same’. Their forecasts about the volume of sales and orders placed with suppliers over the next three months were also more moderate, the NSI said.
However, in the service sector, the indicator was up by 4.4 percentage points, with managers having improved assessments and expectations about the business situation in their sector, although their opinions about the present demand for services had worsened, while their expectations over the next three months had improved./ΙΒΝΑ
