The Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold contacts in London

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides, will travel to London where on Thursday, 16 March, he will have a meeting with the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons, Mr Crispin Blunt. The meeting will focus on issues of mutual interest.

Moreover, Mr Kasoulides will be the keynote speaker at an event organized at the House of Commons, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Ministerial Committee of the Council of Europe. The event is organized jointly with Mr Crispin Blunt and it will focus on the reinforcement of international capacities vis-à-vis the protection of cultural heritage and the tackling of illegal trafficking of cultural property. During the event, the Foreign Minister will make reference to the significant initiatives undertaken by the Republic of Cyprus at various international institutions to promote the protection of cultural heritage. He will also brief the audience on the Council of Europe’s new Convention, which is being formulated, regarding offences pertaining to cultural heritage.

Mr Kasoulides will also have a meeting, on Thursday afternoon, with the British Minister of State for Europe, Sir Alan Duncan, with whom he will discuss the latest developments in the Cyprus problem as well as Brexit-related matters.

In the evening, the Foreign Minister will have a meeting with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Ms Patricia Scotland, and later on he will attend a working dinner of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG). CMAG, which is chaired by Mr Kasoulides, consists of nine Foreign Ministers of Commonwealth member states and it is the guardian of the key policy values of the organization.

On Friday, 17 March, Mr Kasoulides will preside over the ordinary CMAG meeting, during which the political situation in Commonwealth countries will be discussed. Due to the fact that this will be the 50th anniversary meeting of CMAG, the Foreign Ministers who will be attending will be received by Prince Charles, heir to the throne./IBNA
