The 4th Trilateral Summit of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt takes place on Tuesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades arrived late Monday, accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides, Energy Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Transport Marios Demetriades, and Agriculture Nikos Kouyialis, as well as Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides.
According to sources, during the Trilateral meeting issues concerning agriculture, energy, sea transportation and tourism will be examined. Also on the agenda are immigration, terrorism and regional affairs.
In addition, the Cyprus problem will be discussed and especially the help that Egypt offers to Cyprus at the Islamic Conference.
The same sources said that President of Egypt Abdel Fatah al Sisi, is expected to visit Cyprus by the end of the year.
According to the sources, the aim is to sign by the end of 2016 the final agreement on the construction of a pipeline with Egypt to export natural gas from Cyprus to Egypt and this agreement to come into effect in 2020.
Two Joint Declarations of Intention are expected to be signed among the three countries on issues of environmental protection, sea transport and recreation cruises.
Common tourist packages for the US and China are also on the agenda of the trilateral summit.
On a bilateral level, the sources said that Cyprus considers very significant the appointment of a permanent Military Attache at the Egyptian Embassy in Nicosia.
On Tuesday morning, President Anastasiades will have a bilateral meeting with President of Egypt Abdel Fatah al Sisi, at the Presidential Palace in Cairo.
After the bilateral contacts, the three leaders will plant three olive trees in the garden of the Presidential Palace, as a token of the friendship and cooperation among the three countries.
The Trilateral Summit will then follow. Remarks to the press are expected after the meeting while a joint declaration on the results of the talks among the Governments of the three countries will be issued.
The Egyptian President will host lunch in honor of President Anastasiades and Prime Minister Tsipras.
Later Tuesday, Transport Minister Demetriades will sign the agreement on air transport.
The President and his entourage will return home on Wednesday morning.
