Turkey and Russia were in the top two spots among Bulgaria's trading partners that are not members of the European Union, according to figures for January to August 2017 released by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) on October 10.

The two countries were followed on the list of non-EU exports clients of Bulgaria by China, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia and Egypt, and these six countries accounted for 51.6 per cent of exports to non-EU countries, the NSI said, citing preliminary figures.

In the period January - August 2017 Bulgarian exports to third countries - meaning, non-EU countries - increased by 16.8 per cent in comparison with January - August 2016 and amounted to 11 693.7 million leva

In August 2017 Bulgarian exports to third countries grew by 3.3 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 389.2 billion leva.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the period January - August 2017 increased by 26.7 per cent in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year and added up to 13 932.8 million leva (at CIF prices).

The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Serbia

In August 2017, Bulgarian imports from third countries grew by 8.6 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 797.1 billion leva.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - August 2017 was negative and added up to 2 239.1 million leva.

The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to 1 557.9 million leva.

In August 2017 the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to 407.9 million leva.

In the period January - August 2017, the value of all exported goods - to EU and non-EU countries - from Bulgaria amounted to 34 093.2 million leva and in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year the exports increased by 12.9 per cent.

In August 2017 the total exports added up to 4 320 billion leva and grew by 7.3 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the NSI said./IBNA
