Zaev confirms the deal: Republic of North Macedonia “erga omnes”
Prime Minister Zoran Zaev declared today that Republic of North Macedonia is the name which has been agreed with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras. He said that an agreement which protects the identity and the Macedonian language has been reached. “Republic of North Macedonia, which is translated in all languages and will also be enshrined in the Constitution of the country. The nationality will be Macedonian/citizens of Republic of North Macedonia. With this solution, we strengthen the Macedonian identity”, Zaev declared in the press conference delivered today along with members of the cabinet. According to him, the cultural identity will be protected and will be written Makedonski/Macedonian.

Zaev said that once the agreement is ratified by Skopje and Athens, a letter will be sent to NATO’s Secretary General that there are no more obstacles about the issue of accession in this organization.  The same letter will also be sent to the European Union. The PM said that according to this agreement, a referendum will be held in the fall, where citizens will decide on this matter. According to him, this agreement ensures good relations between the two countries, opens up perspectives of integration and helps the country come out of isolation. Asked about the use of the state code, he said that MK and MKD will have a general use, will NMK will be used in vehicle licence plates.  He also said that if either side does not comply with the agreement, then the agreement becomes void.
