Bulgaria's exports in the first half of 2018 slightly up - statistics institute

In the period January - June 2018 the value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 25 569.4 million leva, an increase of 1.6 per cent compared with the first half of 2017, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on August 10, citing preliminary data.

In June 2018, Bulgaria's total exports - meaning to EU and non-EU countries - added up to 4 631.3 million leva and grew insignificantly compared with June 2017, the NSI said.

The total value of all the goods imported into Bulgaria in the period January - June 2018 amounted to 30 398.8 million leva (at CIF prices), or 6.6 per cent more than the same period of 2017.

In June 2018 the total imports increased by 11.9 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year and added up to 5 495.8 million leva.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January - June 2018 and amounted to 4 829.4 million leva.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) in the period January - June 2018 the total foreign trade balance was also negative and added up to 2 886.8 million leva.

In June 2018, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and added up to 864.5 million leva. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and amounted to 541.9 million leva.

In the period January - June 2018, Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 15 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 7 489.1 million leva. The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, Serbia, the United States, the Republic of Macedonia and the Russian Federation which accounted for 53.3 per cent of the exports to non EU countries.

In June 2018 Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 8.3 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 438.3 million leva.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the period January - June 2018 increased by 1.4 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 10 573.9 million leva.

In June 2018 Bulgarian imports from third countries increased by 15.8 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2 059.9 million leva.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - June 2018 was negative and added up to 3 084.8 million leva.

The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to 2 319.2 million leva. In June 2018 the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to 621.6 million leva, the NSI said... / IBNA
